Bay Area Same-Sex Dance Association is proud to ammounce the 10th annual Apil Follies Same-Sex Dancesport Classic to be held again at the elegant Just Dance Ballroom in Oakland, April 28, 2012. Featuring a full complement of competitive dance events, April Follies continues to be the largest and longest-running same-sex dance competition in North America. Join us for a weekend filled with great dancing, great events, and great company! Zoe Balfour's welcome dance at Lake Merritt Dance Center in Oakland Friday April 27 will kick off the weekend. Saturday will be a full day and evening of competition events and social dancing. The Saturday buffet dinner will feature a brand new menu followed by beginning dance lessons, the California Championship Finals, a fabulous show, and plenty of time for social dancing. A bagels-and-coffee community meeting on Sunday morning will be followed by dance workshops/tea dance in the afternoon (details to be announced soon). Even if it isn't a big competition compared to many of the European ones, it is by far one of the nicest! Everybody welcomed us with open arms and cheered us on. We were overwhelmed by the support from the audience and fellow dancers. --Astrid & Helle, Denmark April Follies has never disappointed. This is no ordinary Ballroom competion where dancers are herded routinely onto and off the floor. Here we are entering a community for the day, a community that values who we are, where we have come from, and how we dance. The organizers make us feel part of a US dancing community. Each year they have made improvements in the organization. We especially love the "community dining experience", a lovely opportunity to visit with dancers from different parts of the U.S. For us, this is the go-to competition for meeting, dancing, and feeling part of an exciting movement. Long may it maintain this friendly, community feel! --Ann Taylor, St. Louis Join us for unique and fabulous experiences for dancers and spectators alike. Competition registration will open mid-February. Meanwhile see our listing of Bay Area teachers and classes so you can get ready for April Follies 2012! |

The organization our community created a little more than three years ago has been quite busy! The Board you elected to create the North American Same-Sex Partner Dance Association (with the almost unpronouncable acronym NASSPDA) has created policies, procedures, and a dynamic social networking website which includes an extensive list of links to other same-sex dance events. NASPDA has established a set of comprehensive competition rules and policies to ensure consistency, inclusion, and fairness for same-sex competitions in North America. NASSPDA will play an active role in planning and managing the dance competition at the 2014 Cleveland Gay Games. Check out nasspda.org for a list of other member benefits. Join NASSPDA now and get a $10 discount on your April Follies competition registration fees! |
